45th Anniversary Edition - COMING SOON!

 

For the faithful folks waiting patiently for the 45TH Anniversary Edition of The Sword And The Flame, rest assured it is COMING SOON! Please see the work in progress cover art. The cover is being manipulated with AI and not a drawing program at this point, which is a very fiddly process as you can clearly see. The cover needs a lot of work, but IT IS IN PROGRESS as is the last few aspects of the body of the rules.

There has been a lot of negative talk going on in multiple forums about the health of the rules set and the Broms. The Broms had suffered a series of horrible defeats and tragedies, yet Christie still soldiers on! Huzzah to her fighting spirit to survive, persevere, and to keep her family's legacy alive. Her friends and those faithful to her, Lori, and Larry will do everything in our power to get these rules out to the public ASAP.

TSATF Colonial Games at HurriCon - Orlando 26-29 September

These are the colonial games, mostly TSATF - The Sword And The Flame for the upcoming HMGS-South HurriCon-24 convention, 26-29 September 2024. There will be a colonial game run each session on the same table from Friday morning through Saturday night. 

Hosted by SMG, the South Florida Miniatures Gamers, whose members hail from South Miami to Central Florida and with members all over the country.

TSATF Games at upcoming USA Conventions- TMP Topic

                                                                               

In response to a post on a hobby site “The Miniatures Page” on the 19th Century board, sub page The Sword And The Flame it was asked if there are any cons in the USA that will have TSATF games for an inquisitive Brit looking to Holiday and Game. Since I run TSATF games at all cons across the country I attend as well at our local club I figured I’d reply  

Here’s’s the TMP Topic Link, and my response below.  

Hi Patrick, just to expand on NCC1717, both ReCon and HurriCon in Kissimmee / Orlando Florida both run a full slate of TSATF games. We run at least one TSATF game each and every session on a dedicated table just for TSATF colonial gaming!!!! These start Thursday evening and finish with the last game Saturday night for a total of at least (7) different TSATF based games just on the colonial table, sometimes there are other TSATF games on other tables over the weekend as well. Games are hosted by members of SMG, HMGS-South, Colorado Military Historians, and the The Jacksonville Garrison.

The colonial TSATF games on the dedicated TSATF table will be uploaded shortly.

HurriCon 2022 - HMGS-South’s Convention (9/22/22 - 9/25/22)

 

The annual awesome HMGS-South convention HurriCon-2022 is fast approaching! The theme is Persia, though there will be every manor of games. As usual our crew will have one table just dedicated to Colonial games played with THE SWORD AND THE FLAME rules with a different game every session of the convention starting Thursday night running through Saturday night for a total of 7 sessions / games. More on that later.

A message from the con director:

It is a good milestone for Hurricon, on behalf of the BoD, I am happy to say we are approaching 100 games. We are close to meeting our hotel rooms, we keep selling out ahead of schedule and they keep adding rooms to our block. 

Or theme is Persia, but as usually we have something for everyone. Maybe one of the command tents has a Persian rug in it, that works. 

We have Pete Panzeri's large Borodino Game with 30 feet of Napoleons brutal assault on the Russians. The Rob Hall Memorial game event, Two Bolt action tournaments, multiple De Bellis Antiquitatis tournaments, and the Pathfinder RPG special 3-98 Expedition into Pallid Peril (up to 36 players) exploring a old Dwarven sky-citadel.

We have more coming in every day! 

Yes, we are having a flea market, to sell it is $20 a table. 

HMGS-South as a club is dependent on others to spread the word. We keep the show cheaper than most, we keep vendor rates low, and hope to deliver a maximum value for your money. It been tough on shows and on clubs. Talking to other HMGS Chapters gives me a good perspective. LAF - NWF Campaign - 20 August, 1890 - Bulgur Pass

1st Brigade is force marching towards the Chitral Territory to relieve the beleaguered Chitral Fort garrison. 

On the approach to Uch a messenger, Halvadir Rama Singh commanding a troop of the 77th Bengal Lancers rides into the column with an urgent message for General McGuinness.

(First Brigade is approaching Uch while the 2nd Brigade has just passed Chakdara)

The column is halted as the General reads the message. Sergeant Major Brom calls a halt, orders the men to drink water, and sends out scouts from each unit to the surrounding ominous looking mountains.  

Dispatches from Chitral Fort: 3 August, 1890

From: Colonel Dano MacGurule, Commander Chitral Garrison

To: General McGuinness, Commander CRF, Chitral Relief Force

General, we have successfully defeated entrenched Pashtuns laying siege to my garrison. The fort's outbuildings, gardens, and native built sangers have all been cleared and pickets posted in the recovered territory. Of major concern though, we have taken several prisoners who are NOT Chitrali, they are Afridi from Umra Khan's clans. This is very disturbing news indeed. I fear your columns may find more resistance than anticipated!

NWF: On the road to Chitral.

1st Brigade moves north through rugged country to relive Fort Chitral. The next way point is fort Bulgur. 

The Chitral Relief Force is scheduled to arrive there late this morning. The road, if you can call it that, is nothing more than a dirt goat trail. It weaves through rugged terrain and at this section is bordered on multiple sides by steep and rugged terrain. The column of supply and artillery mules is stretched out for at least a half of a mile with a brigade of infantry plus supports to guard it.

General McGuninness confers with his officers and orders the column forwards. Sergeant Major Brom orders the scouts to push further out. The Anglo-Indian force must reach Chitral Fort with all possible haste.

The local tribes have been watching the column, knowing that this is a suitable place for an ambush, they prepare to attack.

However there are other tribes shadowing the column too, multiple tribes from several locations across the Frontier have arrived at Bulgur pass.

All the tribes want to capture the column's mules for themselves. There will be no coordinated Pathan attack this day.

As the column moves forwards between the mountains a group of Ghazis burst from the tree line and charge the front of the column. Their ferocious charge stops the entire column dead in their tracks! Martini-Henry’s  ring out as many of the true faithful drop in the dusty valley.

I picked up these awesomely painted figs at Stan’s booth at an HMGS-South con several years ago. Stan sells all manor of painted and based game ready figures, guns, and vehicles. Many periods and scales, many genres and manufacturers, including his own line of Boxer Rebellion figures in both 28mm and 20mm. 

I use these painted Pulp Figures minis for my Gunga Din and Tantrapur village games. My preferred set of colonial rules are “The Sword And The Flame” for running games at cons and our local Fort Lauderdale Florida club, the South Florida Miniatures Gamers. (SMG Link)

 

These pics were taken at my Village of Tantrapur game about 5 or more years ago in Orlando Fla at one of the HMGS-South’s excellent cons, Recon or HurriCon. 

I have the earlier period Sergeants 3 pack from pulp figures also but I love to paint and will be painting those myself. However Stan’s painted figs were so good I couldn’t resist. They’ve seen much action in my NWF games over the years! In fact, they will be appearing in my upcoming con game “The Last Pack Train Out Of Ahoogastan” in September at HurriCon 21. (Game post link)
