Frontier Campaign 1758 - Day 3 - 1st Battle - AAR

                   Frontier Campaign 1758 Game Map

Our local South Florida Miniatures Gaming Club, SMG,  has started a horse and musket era campaign. It’s set during the French and Indian War in North America, cira 1758. We've all played lots of one off games, they are fun, exciting, even nail biting. However, nothing compares to campaign games when each battle has ramifications for the next. My good friend Jorge whom I've been gaming with for 44+ plus years now surprised our group by volunteering to run a campaign for us. He's a horse and musket guy who always runs a great 1700-1800’s game and has awesome Naps and 7 Years War collections.

We few, we happy few who've volunteered to join Jorge's campaign have been graced with his awesome efforts. Above is the cool map he made which was part of the game breifing he sent us. We were given force packages, victory conditions, campaign parameters, objectives, and a set of rules to use for the conflicts that occur due to contact bases on the campaign map strategic movements. Oh what wargame joy it is!

There is so much fun going on behind the scenes between commands, the game master, map movement, force allocation, etc... I'm so happy to be involved in another campaign, it adds a whole other aspect to every game played. We just don't fight until the last lead widow is made. Each objective must be properly researched, the correct forces and resources allocated, a sound battle plan generated, all commanders sufficiently briefed, map movement plotted, terrain scouted, making contact with the enemy, and then engage until it's such time for reinforcement, victory, or retreat!

No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy…

Thus begins the Frontier Campaign of 1758, The French and Indian War, Day 3, 1st Battle. The English attack French Fort #2 which located just north of the northern ford to Akat Island, see map.

These are the best QRS - Quick Reference Sheets I made on the pc based on the above rules. They definitely came in handy.

Here are some more pictures of the first game.

Akat Island, occupied by the Abenaki Indians

A tasty victory beverage indulged by the French.

French Cavalry Scouts monitor British movements from
the safety of the tree line.
The full size campaign tactical map adorns a the wall in Das Krieg Haus along with our historical battle maps.

The game master / campaign organizer Jorge briefs one of the players (Sgt Guinness) at our Fort Lauderdale Florida gaming club house: Das Krieg Haus

Here’s a shot from our storage loft we here we store troops and terrain. The loft goes around sll 4 sides of the game room.

Troops are being deployed by Jason and Sgt G while Jim dances a happy Victory jig and Steve reads dispatches from his commanding officer.

The French are attacking British Fort #3 at the same time as the above battle. Umra Khan & Giorgio - LAF - NWF Campaign

Umra Khan & Mulehead the Mighty are engaging in a heated campaign set on the Grim, the NWF during the 2nd Afghan War. These two gentlemen have taken trash talking to new and utterly hysterical heights. To see their exchanges and how my alter ego Sgt Guinness and my buddy Mad Guru have been dragged into their fun, click here:

https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=131610.30

The banter is great, the story line a pleasure to read, and the pictures of their kit pure enjoyment!

Now how do we all get together to roll some dice together…?

I want to preface that as it is well known that my favorite set of rules are “The Sword And The Flame” available at http://www.sergeants3.com/first.html I do play and enjoy other sets of rules! That being said it is impossible for me NOT to join in the banter of this LAF thread.  Below is my first salvo into the fun. My buddy Mad Guru of the Maiwand Day Blog fame has already entered the fray.

An evil wind blows through this putrid valley. False words drop like the bodies of our enemies. Sgt Guinness is a faithful servant of the one and only true text, the holy TSATF! Heretical lies abound about formation changes and documents being altered. The formations and OOB’s are as it ever was, and will continue to be so.

As we speak Sgt Guinness has sent his messenger / runner, Corporal Mado to reach his superior with the discouraging words of the falsehoods leveled upon him and the one true text. Whisper not my name lest it be an invite for dark stout or strong drink!

Sgt Guinness confers with Mad Guru

Sgt Guinness himself has traveled to the territory of Mad Guru, defender of the one true text, mullah and Khan of the Afridi , seeking his alliance and willingness to join as comrades in arms to fight for the one true text. May the late honorable Sgt Brom creator of the one true text smile down upon us from Valhalla!

Even now Captain Lucas is mustering the troops for battle. The 1st & 2nd Gurkhas, the 77th Lancers, the 40th Pathans, and the Dunn Murray Highlanders, are already being provisioned for a deployment to valley of Umra Khan.

The false profit, the Fakir of Wazir, the not so mighty Mulehead,  El Growley, and the despicable Waziri’s must be taught the truth, by tongue or by might!

      March my brothers, March!!!!

Having constructed an alliance verses the evil Fakir of the Wazri, the sultan of the false text, Mad Guru and Sgt Guinness ride off to muster their forces to defend the one true text and all that is holy. HUZZAH!
