Market Stalls

Market Stalls

I was recently asked about the awnings on my market stalls. The wood supports are bamboo skewers glued with super glue and tied together with hobby nautical rope. Sometimes I use coffee stir sticks as the counter tops. For the awnings I use off cuts and pants legs from my worn out BDU's (Battle Dress Uniform). The desired shapes are cut and then glued in place. Once I'm satisfied with the shape and placement I then paint the entire structure, awnings included with an Elmers wood glue and water mixture. Left to dry for 24 hours.

Once dry the whole thing gets spray painted black. It's left to dry for at least 24 hours then I paint the wood using the Foundry 3 tone system using the color "Spear Shaft" using a dry brush technique. The awnings are painted various colors as desired and once dry are weathered with a then black wash until I get the right look and feel. The bases are then textured and once everything is fully dried and cured I spray them with a flat clear coat sealer for protection.

Military BDU offcuts from my old worn out uniforms are used for awning covers, tarps, and flags. Cut to shape and size, glue in place, then cover in a water and glue mixture. Once dry prime and paint.

  1. Hi JB, If you want to email me sometime (it's on my profile), I have spoken to Adrian about the Boer War game and he is going to send me the details of the game for you. Not sure how long it will take him to get around to it though.

  2. Hi Roger,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. It's seems we are cut of similar cloth. Love of the colonial and horse & musket periods, and real sports! I'm in the construction trades, hard work is all I've known.

I've checked out your blogs, very cool! Beautiful games!!!!
